Just for Parents

Fleet Feet Sports and Balega are committed to the health and well-being of our entire community -- with children considered to be a priority.  Children today are eating more, exercising less and facing alarming health issues – like early on-set heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, etc.

The Lil’ Bug Kids Fun Run & 1 Miler promotes the importance of exercise while creating a fun atmosphere for children.  If kids become excited about fitness, they are more likely to carry this passion forward into adulthood – ultimately growing into healthier and more active adults.

Tips for Growing Healthy Girls from Harmony Garden

  • Communicate your support and belief in her to grow into all that she can be.

  • Instill the importance of education and life-long learning.

  • Focus on her intelligence and self-confidence rather than her attractiveness.

  • Expose her to strong female role models who have made a difference.

  • Give her the courage to stand out in a crowd.

  • Prepare her for economic self-sufficiency.

  • Encourage her to eat well and be physically active.

  • Teach her to discriminate among media messages.

  • Help her to walk away from relationships that are not good for her.

  • Emphasize the importance of connections to family, school, and community.

Harmony Garden would love to partner with a group of mothers who are interested in promoting the health of girls in their community.

Step 1 Gather 6-10 interested mothers in your community.

Step 2.  Research top priority concerns for girls’ health in your community.

Step 3.  Organize a plan to take action.

Step 4.  Witness the change!
