SPONSOR OF THE WEEK
Balega is a Zulu word which has no literal translation but means “to move with speed”. As a company, Balega is extremely passionate about quality and performance of their products. With community being a pillar of the Zulu culture, it is not surprising how involved Balega is in the South African communities and the world communities. A specific community Balega is involved in is the Ethembeni School located in the Valley of One Thousand Hills in the Kwa-zulu Natal region of South Africa. The Ethembeni School (meaning “Place of Hope”) is home to 300 disabled and disadvantaged children. The school offers the children the opportunity to learn, work and play in ways all children should. Through a partnership with Fleet Feet Sports, Balega has been able to donate to the Scholarship Fund and purchase a specially-outfitted van to transport children to nearby sporting events. This year’s goal is to raise enough funds to build a sports field, which would eliminate the need for the children to travel to practice. A portion of the proceeds from the Lil’ Bug events will benefit the Pennies for Accessible Playgrounds Project for the Ethembeni School. To read more of the Balega story, visit www.balegasports.com.
Headsweats Perspiration Technology Headwear® was founded in the winter of 1998 by shoe industry veteran and obsessed cyclist, Alan Romick. Frustrated by the perils of heavy sweat blindness, migrating sunscreen, and odd sunburn pattern on his head through his helmet, he set out to develop headgear that worked. Today the Headsweats line includes washable, airlight, supremely wicking hats that now dominate the triathlon, rowing, adventure racing worlds. The success and a spirit of innovation at Headsweats, along with unsurpassed customer service, helped to establish Headsweats as the front runner in a very competitive cycling category. Alan continues to work relentlessly to bring the most cutting-edge, advanced and fun headwear products to new markets for construction workers, chefs, police forces, snow-boarders, and marathoners alike.
